If you are a lover of skiing or snowboarding, it’s likely that heli-skiing / snowboarding is at the top of your bucket list. For those lucky enough to have experienced heli-skiing, you know the rush it provides that keeps you begging for more each season. In case you need a few new reasons to join us this winter, we’ve compiled our top five. We hope to ski with you soon!
1. We get to ski the highest, most spectacular terrain in North America.
Telluride Helitrax has access to over 200 square miles of terrain in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado. Our terrain surrounds Telluride to the north, east, and south. With an area this big, we have perfectly varied terrain. While most of our skiing is above tree line, we do ski and board glades and open tree runs. We are lucky to have steeps, couloirs, and big open bowls but also an abundance of moderate-angled runs for advanced intermediate skiers and riders. Each day’s terrain selection is determined by weather and snow conditions, but we have hundreds of different drop off locations to accommodate whatever mother nature has in store for us.
A day with Telluride Helitrax will find you among high alpine cirques, basins and couloirs skiing some of the highest elevations in North America. We truly have something for everyone.
2. Heli-skiing is our passion and we’ve been doing it since 1982.
Telluride Helitrax was founded in 1982 by four ski bums with a passion for skiing and fun in the mountains. We’ve been carrying that enthusiasm forward for over 36 years to make sure each day is an unforgettable experience for each of our guests. Today, we remain a family-owned guide service, so we can cater our offerings to provide the best customer experience, hire the best guides and pilots in the business, and use the best and safest helicopters in the industry. Our guides and staff are a small group of dedicated mountain professionals. Our backcountry experience is unrivaled in the San Juan Mountains. Hands down, we are the most experienced and knowledgeable heli-ski operation and backcountry guide service in Colorado.
3. We’re based in Telluride, one of the coolest and most beautiful mountain towns in ski country.
If you’ve never been to Telluride, it’s easy for us to say you are missing out. The town is nestled in a box canyon, surrounded on three sides by magnificent 13- and 14,000-foot peaks. Many heli-ski operations are located in the middle of nowhere with little to do outside of skiing during the day. Being based in Telluride opens many doors for accommodation options, restaurants and nightlife variety, and more activities outside of just heli-skiing. You can complement your heli-ski trip with just about anything you want. Did we mention the beauty? Telluride is consistently referred to the most beautiful place in Colorado. Come see for yourself!
4. Heli-ski for a single day, a whole week, join us on a backcountry ski tour, or combine the two.
No matter your ability level or your sense of adventure, we’ve got you covered. We are here to help you create your best memories on snow, whether that’s a single day of heli-skiing, a customized heli tour, a day of heli-skiing via Aspen, Vail, or Denver, a heli-assisted day of backcountry skiing, or simply a guided day of backcountry touring. We even do scenic tours in the afternoons to accommodate our non-skiing and snowboarding friends. We have intimate knowledge of the San Juan Mountains and will make sure whatever trip you decide is made perfect just for you.
5. We’re the whole package.
Let’s face it, we’ve got it all. From an abundance of varied terrain, to knowledgeable and experienced guides, to assorted trip options, and a damn cool town. We work hard to make sure each day surpasses expectations. Join us this season and finally put that check mark next to heli-skiing on your bucket list. Book now.
